This Standard specifies the test and calculation methods for lifetime of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell stack (FCS) in vehicle application.
This Standard applies to testing and evaluating the lifetime of proton exchange membrane fuel cell stacks for road vehicles and non-road vehicles.
Note: The influence of the difference in air quality between laboratory and road environment is not taken into consideration in this Standard currently.

This standard applies to proton exchange membrane fuel cell modules for road vehicles (hereinafter referred to as "modules").

This Part of GB/T 20042 specifies the basic requirements for safety and performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell stacks (including direct alcohol fuel cell stacks), and the requirements for type inspection and routine inspection items, test methods, and markings and instructions.
This Part is applicable to proton exchange membrane fuel cell stacks (including direct alcohol fuel cell stacks) (hereinafter referred to as "fuel cell stacks").
This Part deals with conditions that can yield hazards to persons and damage outside the fuel cell stacks only. Protection against damage to the fuel cell stack internals is not addressed in this Part, provided it does not lead to hazards outside the module.
This Part does not cover the storage devices of fuel and oxidant or the delivery process and devices of fuel and oxidant.
Alternatively, any other fuel cell stacks, which employ better materials or have new structures, and which can pass the inspections specified in this Part and meet the relevant requirements, may also be considered to comply with this Part.
